Module 1 - Insight
“Climate change itself, adaptation to it and efforts to arrest it by reducing emissions have far-reaching implications for economic and social development, for production and consumption patterns and thus for employment, incomes and poverty reduction. These implications harbour both major risks and opportunities for working people in all countries.”
(From Green Jobs: Towards decent work in a sustainable, low-carbon world, UNEP, ILO, IOE, ITUC, 2008)
This2 section provides a brief explanation of some of the key concepts covered in the training course by presenting a historical perspective of the milestones of international forums and institutes. More information regarding climate change is given in the first sub-section, "From Stockholm to Copenhagen," which is followed by a short description of the pace and magnitude of climate change. This sub-section provides important information regarding the direct and visible impacts of our production and consumption patterns. The section concludes with a theoretical discussion of the green jobs concept.
This section represents the core of our training activity. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you go through all the readings, and then test your knowledge by taking the quiz.
